Derek Jeter gives 2-word response to Yankees clinching ALCS, courtesy Juan Soto - Giancarlo Stanton heroics
During his two decades playing for the Yankees, Derek Jeter won the World Series five times. On Saturday, the Hall of Famer reacted to his former team making the Fall Classic for the first time since he helped them get there fifteen years ago.
Known for his stoicism, Jeter is not one to celebrate fanatically. However, after the Yankees clinched their first World Series berth since 2009, Jeter took to X to post a simple message:
"We’re back" - Derek Jeter
The Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians by a score of 5-2 to clinch their spot in the next round. Giancarlo Stanton's two-run shot tied the game at 2 before Juan Soto went deep with two outs down in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The last time that the Yankees won the World Series was 2009 when they bested the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. Jeter himself hit .407 with an RBI in that fateful series, his last glimpse of a World Series championship.
In addition to heroics from Stanton and Soto, the Yankees have been able to rely on strong pitching, both from the rotation and the bullpen.
In his retirement, Jeter has taken up several other projects and endeavors. An avid golfer, Jeter also appears periodically as an analyst on FOX alongside former teammate Alex Rodriguez. The Michigan native also got married in 2016 and purchased a minority stake in the Miami Marlins in 2017.
Derek Jeter eyes the next step as he opens a production company
In recent weeks, Jeter has come forth with a plan to create his own production company, called Cap2 Productions. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jeter claimed:
“It’s not just some random company that was started because we said, ‘hey, we want to get into production now.’ This is an extension of what has been built over the last 10 years"
Now a husband and the father of three young girls, it is safe to say that Derek Jeter's priorities have changed since his free-wheeling playing days. As one of the most globally known baseball players, Jeter has a strong and dynamic existing fanbase to draw from as he enters this exciting new chapter in his professional life.
