If fans turned the clock back to a decade ago, Aroldis Chapman would be the hottest man in baseball. The then-Cincinnati Reds closer clocked pitches at around 106 mph, setting the record for the fastest pitch.

However, in more recent years, the Cuban-born player has drawn infamy for his off-field actions. This has caused fan skepticism to rise alongside his personal ERA in recent seasons.

In 2015, Chapman was arrested and subsequently suspended by the MLB for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and brandishing a firearm at their Florida home.

Strange injuries are not a novelty for Chapman. While pitching for the Yankees last season, it was announced that Chapman would miss several games after developing an infection in his leg after he got a tattoo.

Aroldis Chapman posted a 4.46 ERA with the New York Yankees last season, the highest such number of his career to date. He also only made 9 saves, another career low. Chapman registered 181 saves as a closer for the Cincinnati Reds between the 2012 and 2016 seasons.

Aroldis Chapman injury was probably just an unlucky tumble

Although Chapman has a somewhat checkered past, there is no evidence to suggest that this most recent incident was anything more than an unlucky accident. Aroldis Chapman is eyeing a big rebound year with a new team, He would do well to heed no attention to cheap jokes made by internet commentators, however funny their quips might be.
