“He always wanted to be a baseball player” - When Juan Soto revealed his father's prediction came true with his 2019 World Series with Nationals
Juan Soto made it to his second World Series this year with the New York Yankees. Even though he was on the losing end this time, he may still have memories of winning the title with the Washington Nationals in 2019. Back in 2020, the Dominican opened up about his father, Juan Jose Soto's feelings after his victory.
On MLB Network's show Intentional Walk, hosted by Kevin Millar and Chris Rose, Soto was asked about how he felt of winning his first World Series ring the previuous year with the Nationals. He was specifically asked about his father's influence on his game and what Soto senior thought of his achievement.
The youngster stated that his father had wanted to be baseball player and in a way lived his dream trhough his son.
"It's amazing. And more so with my dad. My dad always wanted to be a baseball player, he always wanted to be a professional baseball player, but he never made it. He just played in the minor leagues a little bit, but he never made it. And now, he'd be here, playing in the World Series. And with him, it's really special," Soto said.
The outfielder further stated that his father had prophesized him playing a World Series on his birthday, that actually came true.
"And more so when I was a kid, he just told me about it. It was like we were watching a World Series game, and he told me, 'One day, hey, you're going to be playing in the World Series on your birthday. One day, you will see.' And now, the dream is coming through, and it just feels amazing," Soto added.
Soto's offseason courting set to begin
Juan Soto's 2019 season shot him into instant fame as he became of the most promising faces in the league. Now 26, he is the hottest free agent available in the market. There are projections that he can get as high as $700 million for his next contract because of his talent and his age.
Per reports, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen will be the first one to make contact with Soto's agent Scott Boras. He is the first in line of many owners and general managers who are meeting Boras and Soto in the coming weeks. The Mets, along with the Yankees, are contenders to sign the four-time All-Star.
