How will the Yankees’ batting lineup and pitching rotation shape up after recent moves ft. Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt and Max Fried
The New York Yankees lost out on Juan Soto, but they've been hyper-aggressive since then. They've completed two blockbuster trades and signed two premier free agents, significantly reshaping their lineup and pitching staff for 2025.
What the Yankees batting order might look like now
With the additions of Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt, the Yankees sport a new-look offense. Here's what their offense could look like on a nightly basis:
- Jazz Chisholm, 3B
- Aaron Judge, RF
- Cody Bellinger, CF
- Austin Wells, C
- Giancarlo Stanton, DH
- Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
- Jasson Dominguez, LF
- Anthony Volpe, SS
- Oswaldo Cabrera, 2B
The Yankees are reportedly going after Alex Bregman next after the Goldschmidt signing, which would adjust things further and move Oswaldo Cabrera to the bench. They've also been linked to Nolan Arenado via trade.
Either of them would play third base and allow Jazz Chisholm Jr. to move back to second base. Arenado and Bregman would likely slot in fourth or fifth in the lineup.
How the Yankees can set up their pitching staff
The Yankees also added Max Fried on a record $218 million contract. He will be a key pitcher in their rotation, which likely stacks up like this:
- Gerrit Cole
- Max Fried
- Luis Gil
- Carlos Rodon
- Clarke Schmidt
Marcus Stroman goes to the bullpen in this instance and can provide depth in case of an injury. The bullpen also added Devin Williams, which means they now have a closer. They are presumably done adding to the rotation this year.
Here's what the bullpen could look like:
- Closer: Devin Williams
- Set-up: Luke Weaver
- High-leverage: Jonathan Loaisiga
- Long-relief: Marcus Stroman
- Others: Jake Cousins, Fernando Cruz, Ian Hamilton, Mark Leiter Jr., Will Warren
Clay Holmes exited to the New York Mets. Tommy Kahnle is a free agent but could re-sign. If he did, that would give the Yankees another dependable, high-leverage arm to use in different scenarios.
The Yankees have a little less bullpen depth than they had last year, but the overall strength is better with Williams in town and a fully healthy Jonathan Loaisiga.
