Kansas City Royals 4-3 Chicago White Sox

The Kansas City Royals rattled off another win today against the Chicago White Sox. Behind 6.1 solid innings from Bruce Chen, the Royals scored the 4 runs to achieve this victory. This game was won on some timely hitting and bad pitching. The timely hitting includes the game winning run scored off a two-out double by Salvador Perez. Alex Gordon scored from second on the play after hitting his own double with two outs.

The Royals broke the game open early off Bobby Danks when Billy Butler (his second of the game) and Mike Moustakas both got RBIs to put the Royals up 3-1 in the 5th. Moose got his first RBI of the season with a bases-loaded walk, and Butler’s on a Sac Fly to center with Nori Aoki tagging at third.

The Royals Bullpen yet again blew a win for the starters, giving up 2 runs in last last 2.2 innings. Aaron Crow again came out looking very pedestrian, and set-up man Wade Davis also gave up what was then the tying run. However once the lead was grabbed in the bottom of the 8th, Greg Holland came in and slammed the door, once again showing his dominance as a closer.

For once it was nice to see a bonehead decision made by an opposing skipper. In the 8th, with two outs and first base open, White Sox manager Robin Ventura chose to pitch to the A.L.s second best hitter with runners in scoring position. Sitting on deck was the still offensively anemic Mike Moustakas,  a decision that cost him the game.

This is the second win in a row for the Kansas City Royals bringing them to 2-2 on the year.

Interesting note from yesterday’s game – history does repeat itself, last year going into game three the Royals were 0-2, playing the White Sox, and Jeremy Guthrie was called upon to stop the skid (and did). Yesterday the exact same scenario played out, and the same result was achieved.
