Kansas City Royals win home opener over White Sox
The Royals notched their first win of the 2014 season with Jeremy Guthrie getting the start, going 5 2/3rds innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. The top of the Royals batting order had a good day, with Aoki, Infante and Hosmer going a combined 8 for 13, setting the table for the Royals to string together a pair of 3 run innings in the 1st and again in the fifth.
Greg Holland locked down his first save with a 13 pitch ninth inning, with 2 strikeouts, no hits and no walks. Wade Davis, Aaron Crow, and Francisely Bueno bridged the way between Guthrie and Holland, with only Bueno allowing a run. Alex Gordon had the big hit of the day, with a deep wind aided double in the first inning to plate 3 runs. Moustakas and Escobar continued to struggle, with both looking for their first hits of the year.
Bruce Chen takes the bump tomorrow in hope of locking down the series with the Sox. Look out for a Royals Blue shirt if you are out and about at the K on Saturday, and be sure to say hello!
