Kenley Jansen Landing Spots: Predicting 3 ideal fits for 4x All-Star closer in free agency
Kenley Jansen is not only one of the best closers of his generation but also one of the best of all time. The 37-year-old has been as elite as they come throughout his 15-year MLB career and currently sits 4th all-time in total career saves with 447. Even at this stage of his career, Jansen is still an effective reliever who could be an impact player for a contender looking to bolster their bullpen.
The four-time All-Star and former World Series champion may no longer be in his prime but he was still strong in 2024. Last season with the Boston Red Sox, Jansen posted a 3.29 ERA with 27 saves and 62 strikeouts over 54.2 innings of work.
It remains to be seen what kind of contract Jansen will look to secure this offseason. However, he is a prime target for several contenders looking for an elite bullpen arm.
3 potential landing spots for Kenley Jansen in free agency
#1 - Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays need a bona fide superstar closer and Jansen could solve that problem. After non-tendering Jordan Romano, the Blue Jays need help at the back of their bullpen. If Jansen is looking for a closer role, a trip north of the border could be his best option, while the Blue Jays could be primed for a major bounce-back in 2025. This could be an ideal match for both parties.
#2 - Los Angeles Dodgers
No matter how effective he remains on the mound, at this age, Jansen is undoubtedly in the final years of his career. If he wants to secure another ring before he retires, why not a reunion with the club where he recorded 350 saves? Although the Dodgers have some solid relievers such as Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen, Jansen could help the club defend its crown in 2025.
#3 - Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals will be one of the top teams in the American League yet again in 2025 and could use a lock-down closer of Jansen's ilk. While the team acquired Lucas Erceg last season, he struggled a bit in the postseason. It's never a bad idea to bring additional weapons when a team has World Series ambitions.
If the Kansas City Royals bring in Jansen and bump Erceg to the setup man, the two could quickly become one of the top duos in all of baseball. The Royals could use an arm like Jansen if they are going to contend for the title.
