Major League Baseball: Have a day, Infante!
Omar Infante decided today he would load the Royals up on his shoulder and take them to the promised land! Infante took his MLB leading RBI total for a second baseman, and added a 6 spot to it (17 total now). He is the first second baseman to do so since…Omar Infante, last year against James Shields and the Royals. Shields would say “I am glad he is on this team now!” after the game today.
Infante is the first Royals’ second baseman to plate 6 runs in a game since Alberto Callaspo in 2010. Before that the only other Royal second baseman to drive in 6 runs in one game was the “Native Son” Frank White. Infante accounted for the first 6 runs by the Royals with a two run homer, a two run double, a sacrifice fly, and scored our first run on a ground out with Nori Aoki on third. Omar threw in a walk in the 8th for good measure. All told the Royals offense would tally three more runs and win the game 9-3
It is not often that “Big Game” James (Shields) will only give up 3 hits in a win, and not be the headliner. However that is exactly what happened. Shields threw 7 innings and 6 strikeouts to dispatch the Orioles on Sunday. He made one mistake with a fat fastball to Nelson Cruz, and he ended up belting a two run homer. Shields also threw his 41st strikeout of the season taking him into the top 5 in this category among AL pitchers. Shields now has a 2.03 ERA and is 3-2 on the season. The Royals 9-3 Victory at Camden Yards pulled them back to .500 at 12-12, and are currently in 3rd place in the AL Central (1.5 games behind the Tigers).
