Miguel Andujar Trade Rumors: 3 landing spots for Athletics outfielder following strong return from injury
Miguel Andujar is off to a very hot start in his return from injury. In 15 games, he's hitting .317 with a 131 wRC+. In that small sample size, he's also accumulated 0.4 fWAR. He is still arbitration-eligible and has struggled to find consistency and playing time, so he figures to be a top trade target this year.
While his defense at both positions leaves a lot to be desired, he has played third base and outfield. That defensive versatility could entice a contender even further. If he can keep his bat hot, then several teams will be calling Oakland this summer. Here's who should keep an eye on Andujar.
3 best landing spots for Miguel Andujar
3) Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves could use Andujar if only as a depth replacement for Ronald Acuna Jr. This is the sort of cheap, easy move that GM Alex Anthopolous does quite often, and it could make the difference as they try to climb the NL East standings. After last year's disappointing season, the Braves likely need to make a move to prevent another.
2) Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies could definitely use Miguel Andujar. The left fielder‘s 0.4 fWAR this season is nearly half of Fangraphs’ projected total from everyone who has played left field (0.9). They are also no stranger to poor defenders playing the outfield, as they've used Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. Andujar would be no problem for them, and he'd improve the strength of their lineup overall.
1) Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals have been surprisingly good this season, but that's virtually without a left fielder. They've struggled to get production there from the group of MJ Melendez, Dairon Blanco, and others. Adding Miguel Andujar would shore up the offense from that spot, which currently ranks 28th in Fangraphs depth projection. It would also help them catch the Cleveland Guardians in the heavily contested AL Central.
