Mike Tauchman Landing Spots: 3 potential destinations for veteran outfielder after solid season with the Cubs

It's been a well-traveled career for veteran outfielder Mike Tauchman. After spending the early years of his MLB career with several clubs, Tauchman spent a season in South Korea with the Hanwha Eagles. The outfielder made his way back to MLB for the last two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, performing admirably for the club.

While 2024 may not have been an All-Star season for Tauchman, he was solid for the Cubs. Since returning to the MLB, Tauchman has improved his plate discipline, posting some of his best on-base numbers at the major league level.

The 34-year-old posted a .248 batting average with seven home runs and 28 RBIs. Even though those numbers don't jump off the page, his .723 OPS ranked fifth on the Cubs among players who logged more than 100 starts. Given the need for outfield depth across MLB, Tauchman should have no problem drawing interest from clubs in free agency.

Here are 3 potential landing spots for Mike Tauchman in free agency

#1. Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves might be one of the best teams in MLB next season. After several significant injuries derailed their 2024 campaign, the Braves will look to return to World Series contention in 2025. One area they need to improve is the outfield.

With Ronald Acuna Jr. returning from a significant knee injury and Jorge Soler, Adam Duvall and Ramón Laureano no longer on the roster, the Braves will need additional depth. Mike Tauchman could be a low-cost target for Atlanta this offseason.

#2. Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds are another NL contender that could use additional outfield help. The club has several lineup questions to answer, particularly in the infield. However, given the health struggles of the Reds’ roster last season, having proven depth would be a significant benefit. Tauchman may not be a superstar, but he is a solid defender with above-average plate skills.

#3. Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have built a reputation for signing undervalued free agents and maximizing their potential. Mike Tauchman could fit the mold as a low-risk, low-cost signing for the frugal ballclub. The Rays have a number of areas that need to be addressed, including the outfield.

Tauchman's strong defense and solid OPS make him an ideal target. His ability to play all outfield positions adds further intrigue, making him a player worth the Rays' consideration.
