While there has been no shortage of injuries this season, MLB starting pitchers have been elite this season. From youngsters to veterans having surprisingly strong seasons, the rankings have been all over the place.
As the end of the regular season inches closer, fans are getting a better grasp of which pitchers are truly the best right now. Here's a closer look to break down these pitchers and where they stand in Week 23.

Hunter Brown got off to a miserable start but has turned it around. He holds an 11-7 record with a 3.55 ERA on 147 innings of work. He has turned into a starter the Houston Astros can rely on as they work toward another AL West championship.

Logan Gilbert has been a force to be reckoned with lately in the Seattle Mariners rotation. Outside of a rough start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he has been nothing but effective.
#8. Paul Skenes
There is no denying how stellar Paul Skenes has been this season. He has compiled an 8-2 record in 18 starts with a 2.23 ERA over the course of 109 innings of work and is just getting his MLB career underway.

Seth Lugo has been quietly dominating hitters nearly all season long. In his first season with the Kansas City Royals, he has been a reason they are in the mix for a postseason spot.

Logan Webb has been another pitcher quietly dominating this season. Known for being a workhorse, this season has proved to be no different with an MLB-leading 177.2 innings pitched.

#3. Zack Wheeler
Zack Wheeler has been nothing short of elite this season for the Philadelphia Phillies. He holds a 12-6 record with a 2.74 ERA on 160.2 innings of work.
He has been a reason for Philadelphia's success this season as they sit atop the NL East. He is two wins away from tying a career-high and currently has a career-low ERA.

Chris Sale has been excellent after a few injury-riddled seasons. He finally looks back to being the dominant lefty that the Boston Red Sox thought they had acquired in 2017.

Tarik Skubal has been working as an ace all year long. He is tied with Sale for most wins (15) and they also share the same 2.58 ERA, which is astounding.
Not many other MLB pitchers can stack up to what he has done this year. Skubal is the frontrunner to win the American League Cy Young Award, which would be the first of his career.
