MLB Trade Deadline: 3 teams that could go all in to acquire Corbin Burnes from OriolesĀ

Corbin Burnes has been one of baseball's best pitchers this season, and yet it doesn't guarantee his stay with the Baltimore Orioles, who may want to tap in on another successful year for him. The Orioles acquired Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason and the pitcher has been everything the Orioles wanted.

In 19 starts, he has thrown 118.2 innings for a 2.43 ERA and 110 strikeouts. His performance on the mound earned him the starting pitcher role for the American League in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game on Wednesday.

Despite all going well, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal went on "Foul Territory" to say that Burnes is leaving the club in free agency. That makes the 2021 Cy Young winner a rental and a top priority for the Orioles to trade him before the deadline.

3 teams that could acquire Corbin Burnes from Orioles at trade deadline

#3. Los Angeles Angels

The team from Anaheim is flushed with cash and trading for a top arm and Corbin Burnes could be beneficial both in the short and long term. With Mike Trout expected to come back soon and the potential addition of Burnes, the team has a chance to make a Wild Card spot.

The Orioles, on the other hand, could take Tyler Anderson in exchange, but it remains to be seen if such a deal happens before the trade deadline.

#2. Los Angeles Dodgers

Among the teams that are in dire need of a starting arm like Burnes, Los Angeles Dodgers could be a destination. With injuries to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and Clayton Kershaw and other starting pitchers, it makes sense for them going for the Orioles ace.

Moreover, the team is also reported to be in conversation with Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. So if that doesn't materialize for them, maybe trading for Burnes won't be a bad idea.

#1. Atlanta Braves

The Orioles are positioned well to make the playoffs. So trading Burnes to an American League team doesn't make sense. One of the teams that have been badly bruised with season-ending injuries to starting pitchers is the Braves. Spencer Strider and Owen Murphy are facing season-ending surgeries, which is why the Braves are struggling in the division against the likes of the Phillies.

A move for Corbin Burnes makes sense as he's on an expiring contract, helping the Braves save on future commitments. For Burnes as well, he will get to pitch in the postseason and be the leader of the rotation there.
