3 players who were snubbed in All-MLB Team 2024 featuring Francisco LindorĀ
New York Mets star Francisco Lindor was the biggest name among several players who were snubbed in the 2024 All-MLB Team announced on Thursday. While many deserving players like Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge made the cut, there were several big names left out of the First Team despite a great season.
Here's a closer look at the three biggest snubs in the All-MLB First Team in this year's awards ceremony:
#3. Jarren Duran
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran had his first All-Star season in the MLB this year and led the AL in triples. Moreover, he had an excellent season, batting .285 /.342/.492 with 111 runs, 24 home runs and 75 RBIs. While he made the All-MLB Second Team, he was overlooked for Mookie Betts, who played the majority of the season as an infielder.
Although there were several impressive outfielders this season, many disagree with having Betts as part of the All-MLB First Team outfield.
#2. Cal Raleigh
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh is another name who was expected to be a shoo-in for the All-MLB First Team. Having his first Golden Glove award as well as the Platinum Glove award, Raleigh made a good argument for the First Team spot.
Moreover, he led all catchers in the majors in home runs with 34 blasts, recording a .220 average with 100 RBI over 153 games. While he made the All-MLB Second Team, he was overlooked for William Contreras of the Milwaukee Brewers.
#1. Francisco Lindor
Among all the big names snubbed for the All-MLB First Team, the biggest has to be Francisco Lindor without a doubt. Having been named a finalist in the NL MVP race, Lindor recorded an exceptional season and propelled the Mets to a deep postseason run.
Having carried the team for long spells during the season, the shortstop recorded a .273 average with 33 home runs and 91 RBI. Kansas City Royals rookie Bobby Witt Jr. made the First Team after an amazing season of his own. While the argument for Witt Jr. is strong, many believed Lindor's MVP-calibre season would give him the edge.
Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor responds to Golden Glove finalist snub
Just days before he failed to make the First Team, Francisco Lindor was not among the finalists for the NL Golden Glove at shortstop. The three names in the list were instead Dansby Swanson (Chicago Cubs), Ezequiel Tovar (Colorado Rockies) and Masyn Winn (St. Louis Cardinals). Speaking to reporters after getting snubbed, he said:
"I thought I had a good defensive year, but I guess there's other players that had a better defensive year than me. At the end of the day, I'm trying to win a World Series."
Despite being the standout player for the Mets over the course of the MLB season, Lindor has come up short when it comes to awards. However, he maintains that he is not worried about it and his goal remains to win the World Series.
