"30 teams could be on him" — Juan Soto’s future lies in money and not loyalty to the Yankees, says MLB broadcaster
Juan Soto will be the biggest name in the market once he hits free agency. If the New York Yankees fail to extend the slugger, teams are expected to go all-in for the talented player.
Soto's incredible performance throughout the years has made him a formidable player. His stint with the Yankees had only made things better in 2024. Several teams have had their eye on Soto even before his free agency. The Mets are one of the teams rumored to pursue the Yankees star.
While it's too early to say which team would possibly deal with Scott Boras for one of his top agents, the competition will certainly be too high. Every team would be fighting to have Soto on their squad. Soto is sure to have multiple options to choose from. However, MLB broadcaster Michael Kay believes that the money is where Soto will go.
"Juan Soto is going to go where they pay him the most money. And if it's a team that's bad if the White Sox offer him $80 million dollars a year, he's going to the White Sox. He's going to go where they pay him the most money," Kay said on the Michael Kay show on YES.
Given the fact that Soto is Scott Boars' client, it's possible what Kay says might be true.
"He's six months away from free agency where 30 teams could bid on him. It's all going to come down to money, period. And he's not said anything that would lead you to believe otherwise. He's been very savvy with every word that he said," he continued.
Juan Soto continues to lead the Yankees with walks
Juan Soto has not only been impressive with his home runs, the slugger has walked the most for the Bronx Bombers. Soto has 83 walks this season, followed by Aaron Judge with 80.
In 371 appearances at the plate, Soto smashed 26 home runs, drove in 84 runs, and recorded 71 RBIs. Soto is slashing .307/ .433/ .593, with an OPS of 1.026. Soto and Judge have a total of 62 home runs for the team. The Yanks will continue their series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
