$43,000,000 man Max Scherzer gets candid about the tough part of getting traded with four kids
Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, was acquired by the Texas Rangers from the New York Mets last month. As part of the deal, Scherzer opted in to his player option worth around $43 million.
Scherzer, who is a doting father to three daughters and a son, opened up about the struggles of getting traded while having to deal with four kids.
"You can't really explain it to a two-year-old, my son keeps pointing to the Mets jersey and saying dada," Scherzer said in an interview with Foul Territory.
Max Scherzer also said he never thought he'd be traded despite the Mets' struggles this season.
“I didn’t think I was getting traded,” Scherzer. “It was a couple of days before the deadline, all of a sudden, a couple of guys across the league who reaching out to me, saying, ‘Would you come to this team? Would you waive your no-trade clause for us?’ That’s when something became peculiar to me. I figured the Mets were going to sell off the impending free agents."
Scherzer had the highest contract in MLB history while he was with the Mets, having signed a $129 million, three-year deal in late 2021.

The "newest addition" to the Scherzer family is a girl named Nikki who was born earlier this year.
Scherzer has previously played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Nationals, Detroit Tigers, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
He is an eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner and won the World Series with the Nationals in 2019.
