6 teams with the best records since the All-Star break ft. Diamondbacks, Padres
The MLB is in its final stretch for the regular season. While some teams have fallen off from contention, a few teams have taken advantage of that and consolidated their position. Here's a look at the best teams since the All-Star break.
#6, Houston Astros (20-14)
The Houston Astros had a troublesome first month and slumped to a 6-19 record. They fell 10 games behind the Seattle Mariners in the AL West standings at one point but regained form to get ahead 50-46 at the All-Star break. Since then, it has been about consolidating their position, as they have recorded 20 wins in 34 games and are all but certain to make it to the playoffs again.
#5, Milwaukee Brewers (20-13)
The Brewers have been one of the most consistent teams this season. The NL Central leaders have hardly been out of contention for the lead in their division. They led at the All-Star break and have continued their dominance with a 20-13 record since then. They are ahead of the Chicago Cubs, who are in second spot by 10 games and almost certain to make it to the playoffs again.
#4, Kansas City Royals (20-13)
The Royals were third in the AL Central at the All-Star break. They were seven games behind the Cleveland Guardians. Now nearing the end of August, they have cut that deficit to just one game. With 20 wins since July 14 and an overall 74-58 record, Kansas City has had an incredible turnaround from a 106-loss season in 2023.
#3, LA Dodgers (22-12)
The Dodgers were runaway leaders at the top of the NL West at the All-Star break, 7.0 games ahead. Even though that lead has been cut to less than half, the Dodgers still have the best record in MLB. Since July 14, they have a 22-12 record. This has kept them the front-runners in almost all Power Rankings, and they are one of the favourites for the World Series.
#2, San Diego Padres (24-9)
The Padres have found a never-say-die attitude in the last two months. Their 33 comeback wins are a testament to that. San Diego has limited its losses since the All-Star break to single digits, and while four of them have come in the last 10, they are in prime position to take one of the NL Wild Card spots.
#1, Arizona Diamondbacks (26-8)
The Diamondbacks have shown why they are the defending National League champions from last year. Their first half couldn't have gone much worse, as they were 6.0 games behind the .500 PCT on June 1. But since then, especially after the All-Star break, the D-backs have been almost unstoppable. The title defense looks well on track.
