8 White Sox who are now free agents ft. Yoan Moncada, Chris Flexen
In 2024, the Chicago White Sox endured one of the worst seasons in MLB history. The AL Central outfit finished the season with a dismal 41-121 win/loss record, the poorest record in the major leagues.
For the 2025 season, priority number one for the White Sox is ensuring the previous campaign's events do not repeat themselves. With a rebuild on the cards at the Guaranteed Rate Field, plenty of free agents will be looking to prove themselves after a torrid 2024.
Whether through a change in team management tactics or a simple change in scenery, these White Sox players may be valuable acquisitions if their potential is unlocked.
8 White Sox players who are now free agents
8) RHP Mike Clevinger
Like many of the White Sox's pitching staff, Mike Clevinger did have a few days on the mound to forget in 2024, finishing the season with a 0-3 record and a 6.75 ERA with 15 strikeouts. The 33-year-old has bags of experience, a 60-42 record for his career, a 3.51 ERA and 819 total strikeouts. Clevinger could be a valuable asset for any team that decides to take a chance on him.
7) RHP Enyel De Los Santos
Another one from the White Sox pitching contingent that found consistency hard to come by in 2024, De Los Santos finished the season with a 6.59 ERA and 18 strikeouts. The Dominican is a well-traveled and experienced player and may be a decent option that some outfits may choose to supplement their pitching staff with for the 2025 season.
6) RHP Dominic Leone
Continuing the trend of right-handed pitchers who are now free agents, Dominic Leone is another player looking for a fresh challenge after a tough time in 2024, finishing the season with a 6.63 ERA. Having played for ten franchises in his ten years in the big leagues, perhaps the eleventh time is a charm for the experienced journeyman.
5) C Max Stassi
Max Stassi was an experienced catcher who missed almost all of the 2024 season due to various injury issues. The White Sox later declined their club option for the 33-year-old, effectively sending him into free agency. Stassi could be a helpful acquisition as a backup catcher for franchises looking to add depth in that department.
4) RHP Michael Soroka
Compared to some of the other pitchers with whom he shared the locker room, Michael Soroka did not have the worst of seasons in 2024, finishing the season with a 4.74 ERA and 84 strikeouts. Still only 27 and having previously earned an All-Star cap, Soroka has plenty of potential as a solid pitching option for any team that can harness his ability.
3) 1B Gavin Sheets
Another one who didn't have the worst seasons compared to plenty of his teammates was first baseman Gavin Sheets, who finished the season with ten home runs and 45 RBIs. A decent left-handed bat for any team looking to add a bit of versatility to their lineup.
2) 3B Yoan Moncada
Yoan Moncada missed a significant chunk of the 2024 season due to an adductor injury. For the brief period he was fit, though, Moncada was quite efficient with the bat, accumulating a .275 batting average over 40 plate appearances. Decently experienced and not the oldest at 29, Moncada could be a shrewd acquisition for anyone who shows faith in him this winter.
1) RHP Chris Flexen
Finally, the last of the right-handed pitchers looking for a move away from the Guaranteed Rate Field, Chris Flexen enjoyed a decent campaign in 2024, finishing with a 4.95 ERA and 123 strikeouts.
In the White Sox pitching staff, Flexen finished second for strikeouts behind the highly sought-after Garrett Crochet at the end of the season. Though he may not be on the level of his colleague, Flexen offers plenty of strikeout potential that could turn into a potent weapon in the right hands.
