"Aaron Judge was like Blake Griffin to me” - Davante Adams reflects on trying to recruit Judge for Fresno’s football and basketball teams
Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees are getting ready to face off against their historic rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the 2024 World Series. Meanwhile, another New York team, the New York Jets, is in the midst of its ongoing NFL season.
Jets' newly acquired wide receiver Davante Adams and Yankees superstar Aaron Judge were both students at California State University, Fresno, more commonly known as Fresno State.
Recently, FOX 5 NY reporter Tina Cervasio asked Adams if he knew Judge, considering they were both at Fresno State at the same time.
"I did. I tried to recruit him," Adams said. "He was like Blake Griffin to me. I was trying to get his a** on the hoop court or the football field, one or the other – but he was in the batting cages, as he should."
Back in the day, during his high school and early college years, Judge was a three-sport star. In addition to baseball, he also played as a wide receiver for the football team and a center for the basketball team during his time at Linden High School.
While Judge excelled in both football and baseball, he preferred to pursue a career in the latter, eventually playing for the Fresno State Bulldogs baseball team. When asked about Judge and the Yankees advancing to the World Series, Adams said:
"It's a special thing, he's doing something that I aspire to do which is have a chance at a championship"
