Alec Bohm Trade Rumors: MLB insider expects Phillies to trade 3B in offseason, predicts Tigers as potential landing spot for All-Star slugger
Alec Bohm enjoyed the best season of his short career since finishing as the runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year in the COVID 19-shortened 2020 campaign. However, the Philadelphia Phillies may look to cash in on their third baseman during this offseason. As per MLB insider Zachary D. Rymer, the Detroit Tigers are one of the teams that could be willing to sign the infielder.
Following a hot start to the 2024 season, Alec Bohm earned his maiden call-up to the All-Star game. But the 28-year-old suffered a massive dip in the second half of the season even though he ended with a .280/.332/.448 slash line, with 15 home runs, 97 RBIs and an OPS+ of 117. He then had a terrible Division Series against the New York Mets, managing only a hit and a walk in 14 plate appearances.
In an article for the Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer underlined him as the player most likely to be traded by the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason.
"Multiple players stand out as potential trade candidates to this end, but none quite like Alec Bohm," Rymer wrote. "He endured a brutal end to his 2024 season after an All-Star first half, and questions about his composure just keep finding new ways to resurface.
"The Phillies would dodge a projected $8.1 million salary for 2025 if they were to trade the 28-year-old'' he continued. "It's not a ton of money, but it could nonetheless go toward upgrades for the bullpen or the outfield.”
The Phillies acquired Bohm as their third overall pick of the 2018 MLB Draft. He's up for salary arbitration at the end of the season and remains under club control until 2026.
Detroit Tigers are potential suitors for Alec Bohm
Zachary D. Rymer has identified the Detroit Tigers as one of the potential buyers for Alec Bohm, along with the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros. The Tigers seem to be best placed to sign Bohm right now after an impressive run to the American League Division Series earlier this month.
The Detroit Tigers are a team on an upward trajectory with a young group of core players; therefore, Bohm should fit into their mold quite well. He would be an upgrade in the third baseman position, being an experienced slugger approaching the peak of his abilities.
