"Alex Bregman to Diamondbacks" - Fans react as ex-Astros free agent attends Phoenix Suns vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA game at Footprint Center

Former Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman remains one of the most reliable free agents available in the offseason despite the chatter around coveted slugger Juan Soto.

Alex Bregman became a household name in Houston after helping the team to two World Series titles since making his MLB debut in 2016. However, the Gold Glove winner elected for free agency after the 2024 season.

The two-time World Series winner is seemingly enjoying the offseason as he was at the Footprint Center, Phoenix, Arizona for the Phoenix Suns' game against the San Antonio Spurs. His son, Knox, was sitting beside him watching the action unfold on the glass.

His presence in the arena excited the Arizona Diamondbacks fans, who reacted to the Suns'.

"Confirmed by the Suns, Alex Bregman to the Diamondbacks," commented a fan.
"Saw enough, Bregman to the Dbacks," alleged another fan.
"Sign him Dbacks," urged another.
"That means he's signing with the Dbacks," a fan wondered.
"Congrats you are now an Arizona Diamondback," wrote another fan.

A few fans alleged that the former Astros star lived in Arizona and hence showed up at the game to support the local team.

"Bruh, Alex is there cuz he grew up in Arizona, duh."
"Bregman moved his offseason home to Phoenix last year."

It was an impressive showing from the Suns as they led the Spurs for most of their NBA Cup matchup and won 104-93 despite Kevin Durant sustaining an injury in the second quarter. Devin Booker delivered in Durant's absence, leading the team to victory and reaching 15,000 NBA career points.

Alex Bregman's former team reportedly trying to resign World Series winner

While Alex Bregman's performances over the years are likely to attract several teams with the MLB Winter Meetings around the corner, his former team is reported to be interested in resigning the star third baseman.

Astros manager Joe Espada is a big admirer of the two-time All-Star and hopes to re-sign the infielder.

He said to the media on Monday:

"I've had the opportunity to watch him play for many many years. It's been great, so we'll see, you know. I don't want this to sound like I'm never going to see him again, but again, it really is a pleasure to have him around. He's been phenomenal. So, hopefully we'll get something done."

But a deal for Alex Bregman won't come cheap as reports suggest that the slugger's agent, Scott Boras, is seeking a deal around $200 million for six years.
