Alex Rodriguez enjoys the spotlight with $50,000,000-worth Julius Erving & $200,000-worth Lawrence Taylor at Zo's Celebrity Golf Classic
Alex Rodriguez has never been one to shy away from the headlines or make an appearance at a high-profile event. This was the case on Monday when the polarizing former New York Yankees third baseman participated in Zo’s Celebrity Golf Classic at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida.
Created by Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning, the celebrity golf tournament helps raise funds for the Mourning Family Foundation, which provides philanthropic help the families and children in need in South Florida. Many athletes and celebrities were on hand for the event, including Rodriguez, who kept fans and followers in the loop on social media.
It was not only legendary faces on hand, but thankfully for the purposes of raising money for the charity, there were plenty of wealthy golfers on hand. The net worths of some of the people in attendance certainly made a significant impact on the Mourning's charity, including Alex Rodriguez ($350,000,000 net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth), Dr. J Julius Erving ($50,000,000) and Lawrence Taylor ($200,000).
It was truly a who's who of superstar athletes as A-Rod, Lawrence Taylor, Alonzo Mourning and Julius Erving have combined for five championship titles, dozens of individual awards and three Hall of Fame inductions. It was a beautiful day in South Florida to get out and golf for a good cause while also being surrounded by sporting legends.
Alex Rodriguez did not receive the required votes to earn Hall of Fame enshrinement this year
Of the athletes mentioned above, only Alex Rodriguez has not earned his induction into his sport's Hall of Fame. While Rodriguez certainly could have earned his place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame without question, his admitted use of performance-enhancing drugs has left his HOF future in doubt.
This year's vote was the fourth time that the former New York Yankees superstar's name appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot, falling well short of the required 75% of votes. Nevertheless, Rodriguez received the most amount of votes this year than ever before, seeing his number jump to 37.1%. A-Rod has six years remaining of eligibility and could continue to see that number rise.
