New York Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez was among the many stars present at the 2024 Bloomberg Power Players conference held in New York. A-Rod served as a speaker while also doing a live podcast, "The Deal," alongside Jason Kelly, chief correspondent, Bloomberg Originals.
A-Rod, a three-time MVP and 14-time All-Star, became host to several big names, such as Cal Ripken Jr., Baseball Hall of Famer and Founder & Partner, Ripken Baseball and Steph Curry, a four-time NBA champion and 10-time NBA All-Star.
On Thursday, A-Rod shared photos from behind the scenes on his social media. He shared candid photos with both Ripken Jr. and Steph Curry in separate posts. Both seem to be having a conversation with the Chairman & CEO of A-Rod Corp.
Cal Ripken Jr. shares that he was once dissatisfied with Alex Rodriguez's gesture in All-Star game
The storied career of Cal Ripken Jr. saw him make 19 straight All-Star game selections from 1983 to 2001. However, it was his last one in 2001, which took place in Seattle, that made Ripken a little upset with Alex Rodriguez.
Last year in July, the All-Star game returned to Seattle after 22 years and the last time Midsummer Classic was played there, it was also Ripken's last All-Star game. Sharing the space with Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez on the field for Fox Sports, Ripken turned back the call and revealed an iconic moment.
Cal Ripken, who served most of his time playing shortstop and third base, was playing third base in the 2001 MLB All-Star game. Rodriguez, who was playing shortstop, asked the then-40-year-old Ripken if he wanted to switch positions. Though many viewed it as a good gesture, Ripken didn't.
"Well, now that you brought it back up, I was kind of pissed at you, to be honest with you," Ripken said to Rodriguez. "... I hadn't been over there in a while. I got this big old glove on my hand that they made that they called humongous. I go, 'How am I going to go back over there and turn a double play?'"
The All-Star that took place on July 10, 2001, at Safeco Field in Seattle saw Cal Ripken hit a 400-foot home run, which later helped him win his second All-Star Game MVP.
