Angels sign catcher Travis d’Arnaud to 2-year, $12 million deal

Travis d’Arnaud hit free agency following the 2024 season, but he did not last long. The veteran catcher's time with the Atlanta Braves has come to a close with reports that he has signed a new deal.

According to MLB insder Jeff Passan, d'Arnaud will be headed to Los Angeles. He and the Angels agreed to a two-year deal with d'Arnaud getting $12 million in guaranteed money.

d'Arnaud originally had his club option denied following the end of the 2024 season. Now, he quickly bounced back on his feet with a deal that gives him an additional year, but at the cost of a slightly lower AAV.

He will look to play a big role for the Halos in 2025. The team is looking to grow from last year and has already added slugger Jorge Soler in a trade with the Atlanta Braves.

The Angels have been busy during this short free-agency period thus far. They are one of the few teams making multiple moves this early into the offseason, which is a great sign for the fanbase.

As mentioned earlier, they kicked things off by trading for Jorge Soler. While there are questions surrounding the addition, he will bring more power to the roster.

They also signed starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks. The two sides agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal after the pitcher's tenure with the Chicago Cubs ended this past season.

Now, the club signed Travis d’Arnaud. However, do not expect the Angels to stop here. General manager Perry Minasian stated the team is looking to add depth at multiple positions. Watch for the Halos to keep adding players and get ahead of some others in the always-tough American League West.
