Anthony Rendon Injury Update: LA Angels third baseman expected to return Tuesday against New York Yankees
A positive update concerning Anthony Rendon has come through in the wake of multiple injuries to the LA Angels' roster. Rendon who has been out since July 26 due to lower back inflammation, will return on Tuesday, according to manager Ron Washington.
As per an update provided by Rhett Bollinger, the third baseman was taking some reps on the field. The Angels will be up against the New York Yankees on Tuesday and Washington will likely have Rendon hitting sixth on his return. He will monitor how things go before moving him back to the top of the order.
Rendon is expected to be taken off the injured list ahead of Tuesday's game at Yankee Stadium.
Anthony Rendon served on injured list previously this season
This was the second time Anthony Rendon has been on the injured list this season. Previously, after starting the season, he had a partial tear in his left hamstring on April 19. However, he returned in a month.
“It was a long time coming, but I’m ready to keep on going and finish the second half strong,” Rendon said on July 8. “The main thing I wanted to do was run every day, obviously, being a hamstring injury. I wanted to make sure I got out there, ran the bases and got moving every single day.” [via SI].
Anthony Rendon's availability after signing a seven-year, $245-million contract in 2019, has been minimal. He has not eclipsed the 58-game mark in any of his last five seasons.
Before hitting the injured list for a hamstring injury, Rendon slashed .267/.325/.307 with three doubles, three RBIs, and three stolen bases in 19 games. Then again upon return from the IL, he hit an impressive slashline.
Overall this season, in 33 games, Rendon has batted .227/.289/.273, registering six RBIs and four stolen bases. He's still waiting for his first home run this season.
Apart from Rendon, another big name has been struggling with injuries. Mike Trout who started the season on fire, tore his meniscus in his left knee, resulting in him going for surgery. He was on the road to recovery and expected to be back this month until a knee soreness from a rehab start turned into a need for another season-ending surgery for the three-time MVP.
