"Anthony Rizzo has given me a bunch" - Anthony Volpe opens up on receiving advice from 1B ahead of the World Series
Anthony Volpe has a shot at a full circle moment. The New York Yankees shortstop will feature in the World Series fifteen years after being pictured as one of the fans celebrating during the 2009 victory parade, the last time there was celebration in the Bronx. Ahead of the Fall Classic, Volpe opened up about the advice he received from first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
On Thursday, both the Yankees and Dodgers camps were present at the Dodger Stadium center-field plaza for the World Series media event. Players and coaching staff were designated specific tables as reporters surrounded them to hear their thoughts on the upcoming encounter.
One of the questions posed to Volpe was whether he had experienced any memorable moments of someone close to him providing him with guidance. The infielder answered by stating how remarkable it has been for the entire New York roster to stick together and play well. He then added that Rizzo offered him some advice ahead of the clash against the Dodgers.
"No I think the coolest part has been the same people that have been with me every step of the way and been with the whole team every step of the way. I feel like everyone's done a good job of insulating and staying with each other and no distractions or outside noise really got in the way."
"Yeah, Rizz has given me a bunch. I think it is just the balance of embracing all these moments, but it is just a game. You are just going out there to play and win. We have got four more wins to make history and that's what we're focused on," Volpe said.
Anthony Volpe ready for the World Series challenge
Anthony Volpe also said on Thursday that playing in this current postseason and reaching the World Series has given him the most amount of joy so far in his career in the big leagues.
“This is the most fun I’ve had as a big leaguer,’’ Volpe said (per The New York Post). “This is why you play, to me. This is why you work so hard.”
Anthony Volpe has shown incredible discipline at the plate in the nine postseason games. The shortstop ranks as the highest Yanks batter in the OBP column with .459 and a batting average of .310. He has drawn more walks and is chasing at a low of 12.5%. He would be hoping for a similar form against the Dodgers.
