Arizona Diamondbacks fans awestruck by outfielder Corbin Carroll’s blazing speed in Spring Training game: "Truly special to watch" "Absolutely nuts"
Corbin Carroll went from first to third in approximately 10 seconds, and Arizona Diamondbacks are still picking their jaws up off the floor.
Carroll, the 16th pick in the 2019 draft, is slotted in to be the leadoff hitter for a youthful Arizona team this season. One look at Carroll rounding the bases in a spring training game against the Los Angeles Dodgers will tell you why.
Not set to turn 23 until August, Carroll's playmaking abilities and blinding speed rocketed him up the minor league ranks before he made his big league debut for 32 games late last season.
He hit .260 with nine doubles, two triples and four home runs over 104 at-bats. However, he struck out 31 times while walking just eight times.
But the speed. Diamondbacks fans simply cannot get enough of Carroll's amazeball speed. Most other players would have been at second with a hit like Carroll's. However, the fleet-footed youngster soared into third with relative ease.
Carroll attempted just three steals in his 32 major league games last season, and was actually caught once. However, that small sample size of stats aren't keeping Diamondbacks fans from dreaming big about how many steals he could have in 2023.
Fantasy baseball fans are drooling over Carroll's potential. Thursday's video clip is sure to have him climbing up draft boards in living rooms and garages around the league over the upcoming weeks.
Some fans are throwing caution to the wind when it comes to their optimism over Carroll's potential. While predicting a National League Most Valuable Player award may be way out of bounds to predict for someone with just 32 games of MLB experience, it is safe to say Carroll will be among the favorites to win Rookie of the Year if he can put up the kind of numbers many believe he can.
Corbin Carroll blazed through the minor leagues
Corbin Carroll played in just 174 minor league games before his call up to the Diamondbacks. He hit .302 overall in stops at Class A, Double-A and Triple-A, and pounded out 22 home runs total for three separate Arizona farm clubs in 2022. However, predicting 50, 60 or more stolen bases from him in 2023 may be far-fetched as he stole just 32 over his 174 games in the minors.
