Baltimore Orioles vs Kansas City Royals Game Player Stats and Box Scores for October 1

Camden Yards hosted Tuesday's second Wild Card matchup with the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Kansas City Royals. After battling with the New York Yankees throughout the season, the Orioles came up short in their fight to clinch the AL East. They took the first AL Wild Card Spot. Meanwhile, the Royals qualified in the second Wild Card Spot.

For the Orioles, ace Corbin Burnes (15-9, 2.92 ERA) took the mound while left-handed Cole Ragans (11-9, 3.14) started for the Royals.

Both the pitchers got into their groove early on.

The first run of the game came in the seventh innings off Burnes. After retiring Kyle Isbel, the Orioles ace walked Maikel Garcia, who would go on to steal second base. AL batting champion Bobby Witt Jr. hit an RBI single to left field to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.

On the other hand, Cole Ragans finished his impressive six scoreless innings outings, which included him striking out eight hitters.

Corbin Burnes also made sure the lead stayed the minimum. He pitched eight innings, allowing only one run while striking out three hitters.

9th inning

After allowing a single to Garcia to start the ninth, Burnes was replaced by Keegan Akin in the ninth inning for Baltimore. With two outs already, Garcia stole second to himself in scoring position. After Akin walked Vinnie Pasquantino, Orioles closer Seranthony Dominguez came in to get the final out.

Royals closer Lucas Erceg had a 1-0 situation to protect. He first walked pinch hitter O'Hearn before retiring Adley Rutschman and Colten Cowser. Heston Kjerstad was struck out for the final out of the game as the Royals shut out the Orioles to win 1-0 and take Game 1 of the Wild Card Round.

This was the first road shutout in Kansas City Royals postseason history.
