Baltimore Street named in honor of Jackson Holliday and Lamar Jackson as Orioles fans place their hopes on rising star
NFL superstar Lamar Jackson and Orioles top prospect Jackson Holliday have two things in common. First, they play for a franchise hailing from the city of Baltimore. Second, they both have a city street named after them in the largest city of Maryland.
The 1600 block of Jackson St. in Riverside has a sign in the corner of Jackson St. and Randall St., which is named as "Lamar Jackson Holliday St." Lamar is the superstar quarter back of the Baltimore Ravens and a two-time NFL MVP. He had signed a massive five-year, $260 million contract with the Ravens before the 2023 season.
Holliday, meanwhile, is touted as one of the top prospects for the Orioles in the MLB. At the tender age of 20, he has become a household name among the Bird Nation. He was promoted to the big league in the current campaign on April 10, but everything didn't go as planned, as he went 2-34 in 10 games with a dismal batting average of .059.
Eventually, Jackson Holliday was sent back for assignment to play with the Orioles triple-A affiliates, the Norfolk Tides, in the MiLB on April 26. Since his demotion, fans haven't stopped rallying behind the sartling second baseman. Many baseball analysts also feel that a run back to the Majors may not be all that far away for the rookie talent.
Orioles' Jackson Holliday has been impressive in the MiLB this season
Holliday was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Orioles in the 2022 MLB draft. He received an $8.19 million signing bonus and made quick transitions in the minor leagues to make a name for himself as the No. 1 prospect in the MLB.
Jackson Holliday spent two weeks on the IL in June after complaining of an inflammation in his right elbow. He made a successful recovery from his injury, and overall, he has been fairly decent with his offensive productions for the Norfolk Tides in the MiLB.
This season in the minor leagues, he has a batting average of .274, with 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and a healthy OPS of .927. He has registered 69 hits in 252 at-bats and looks to have settled well at home plate yet again while eyeing a big league call-up in the near future.
