As the Puerto Rican players jubilantly celebrated their monumental 5-2 victory against the Dominicans, Diaz collapsed on the ground. He eventually had to be wheelchaired off the field.
American national team stars Mike Trout and Mookie Betts said it was unfair to blame the injury on the WBC, terming the injury nothing more than a "fluke."

Mets fans swarmed Twitter after the news was made public. With the new MLB season just around the corner, a majority of the fans were left unimpressed with how the situation unfolded. Many of them were also miffed at Trout and Betts' comments.
