Baseball Twitter embarrassed by Team USA's humiliating loss in exhibition game against San Francisco Giants

Team USA suffered a humiliating loss in their exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants ahead of the World Baseball Classic (WBC). The game ended up being a one-sided affair as the Giants triumphed 5-1.

Plenty of WBC teams were in action against MLB teams as they geared up for the tournament. Team Mexico played against the Cleveland Guardians, whereas Team Puerto Rico had tough competition against the Boston Red Sox. The World Series champions Houston Astros took on a strong Venezuelan roster while Team Canada played the Cubs.

Team USA will be looking to repeat their success from the previous edition that was held in 2017. This year, the team is stacked with stars from the MLB, including Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt.

However, their preparations didn't begin in ideal fashion as they were beaten by the Giants. The solitary run came from Paul Goldschmidt. The pitchers didn't come to the party as some crucial plays were given away early on in the game.

Twiterrati were quick onto the scene, lamenting the team's effort.

Mike DeRosa talks about expectations for Team USA

Team USA coach Mark DeRosa said the expectations on the team are going to be a major factor in their performance.

“When you look at this lineup on paper -- and you can put whoever you want in there -- I don’t know how you get through it,” DeRosa said.

During the game, DeRosa was on the mic and he mentioned that captain Mike Trout was influential in bringing players like Mookie Betts into the team.
