“Big Maple come home”; “Beyond moved by this” — Red Sox fans delighted as James Paxton returns after trade with Dodgers ahead of deadline
Boston Red Sox has re-signed James Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers on a trade ahead of the deadline on July 30. Paxton was designated for assignment a few days back and speculated to be out of Dodger Stadium since.
According to reports, Paxton will join his Red Sox in exchange for minor leaguer Moises Bolivar. In the 2024 MLB season, he had 18 starts and pitched 89.1 innings for the Dodgers. He had a 4-2 record, an ERA of 4.43, with 1.46 WHIP and 64 strikeouts.
After the news of Paxton's move back to Fenway Park was announced, Red Sox fans were excited to have their former pitcher back at the clubhouse.

This is going to be Paxton's second stint with the Red Sox. He first moved to Fenway Park in 2021 after electing free agency following his second stint with the Seattle Mariners. However, he joined the Dodgers as a free agent in January on a one-year, $7 million contract.
Dodgers add another veteran pitcher after removing James Paxton from the 40-man roster
The Dodgers DFA'd James Paxton a few days back. The player was not having a great season so far and the team thought it was best to clear his place in the roster for another player. Soon after his removal from the 40-man roster, the Dodgers acquired the services of another veteran pitcher.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Dodgers have signed starting pitcher Jordan Lyles on a minor-league deal. He previously pitched for the Kansas City Royals before being released. Lyles has a career ERA of 5.22 and has never finished a season with an ERA of less than 4.00.
The Dodgers need a guy right now who can soak up a lot of innings for them and buy some time for their injured starters, and Lyles fits this bill perfectly. He has pitched an average of 179 innings over the last three series.
