Big update on Anthony Rizzo's availablity in ALCS Game 1 vs Guardians

Anthony Rizzo is back. The veteran first baseman, who was left off the New York Yankees roster for their American League Division Series against the Kansas City Royals, is reportedly returning to the lineup. According to MLB insider Jack Curry, Rizzo will not only be back on the Yankees' ALCS roster, but he will immediately return to action.

Rizzo was left off the New York Yankees roster after he sustained a pair of fractured fingers. During the Sept. 28 matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Rizzo was hit on the hand by a pitch from veteran Ryan Borucki.

Only a few weeks after the injury, Rizzo is back and will be looking to make an immediate impact for his club. It has been a difficult season for him not only health-wise but also in terms of production.

The former World Series champion has been a shell of himself at the plate as he has posted a disappointing .228 batting average with eight home runs and .637 OPS in 92 games this year. As a result of his struggles, the Yankees have turned a few different players to man first base, including rookie Ben Rice, DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera.

Anthony Rizzo is not the only veteran added to the Yankees ALCS roster

With the New York Yankees eyeing their first World Series appearance since 2009, the team has decided to not leave any stone unturned. Not only did they decide to add Anthony Rizzo to the ALCS roster, but they have also included veteran starter Marcus Stroman.

Stroman will reportedly have a different role as they look to eliminate the Cleveland Guardians. While Stroman has been a starter for the majority of his career, he will be relied upon to provide the Yankees with multiple innings out of the bullpen.

In a corresponding move, they have left both Ben Rice and Duke Ellis off of the 26-man roster to bring Rizzo and Stroman back. It remains to be seen how much either player will be able to contribute; however, given their proven track records, it should provide the club with quality experience.
