“Biggest disgrace of this postseason”; “All those wins, and for what?” - Phillies fans devastated as team fails to advance to NLCS as Mets prevail

The Philadelphia Phillies’ postseason came to an abrupt end, leaving fans devastated on Wednesday as the team lost 4-1 to the New York Mets. After a promising 95-win regular season and hopes of returning to the World Series, the Phillies were eliminated in the NLDS, losing 3-1 in the series.

In a gut-wrenching sixth inning, Francisco Lindor delivered a crushing grand slam off Phillies closer Carlos Estevez. The Phillies, who were holding on to a slim lead, were undone when Lindor’s homer erased their advantage and propelled the Mets to a 4-1 victory.

The New York Mets will return to the NLCS for the first time since 2015, a result that has left Phillies fans devastated.

"Biggest disgrace of this postseason was not only the offense from the bottom 3 batters, but Hoffman ruining game 1 and 4 for us." - Posted one disappointed fan.

One fan lamented how long it's been since Philly last tasted a World Series title.

"Been a loooong time since 2008," the fan said.

Meanwhile, another fan laid into the team and ownership, calling out John Middleton.

"One of the most embarrassing and disappointing seasons the Phillies have ever had. All those wins, and for what? For this. I hope everyone but the SPs donate their useless paychecks to a charity, especially Turner and Harper. You want a trophy Middleton? Start firing people."

Meanwhile, a few fans trolled the team for losing to the Mets.

"They choked against an inferior team for the second year in a row," one fan said.
"What a monumental collapse," another said.
"Eliminated by the Mets? Laughable," one fan added.

Manager Rob Thomson reacts to Philadelphia Phillies falling short of a ring again

This loss is especially hurtful for Philly supporters. After losing the World Series in 2022 and falling short in Game 7 of the NLCS last year, expectations were high for another deep playoff run.

However, despite being the second-best team in the National League in 2024, they failed to deliver as fans had hoped.

When asked how disappointing it was for their season to end so soon amid World Series aspirations, manager Rob Thomson said during the post-game press conference.

"Very. It always is, especially when you get off to the start we got off on. It's disappointing, but the thing is not disappointing is the character that's in our room. The professionalism. The way they go about their business. ... "We have a really great group. We got beat in a short series," Thomson said."

The Mets, considered underdogs by many, capitalized on their opportunities in Games 1, 2, and 4.

Now, the Mets will move on to the NLCS as they await their opponents, either the San Diego Padres or Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, Philadelphia is left to reflect on another postseason collapse.
