"Bobby Witt Jr. can do that in his sleep" — Jarren Duran humble about historic MLB achievement of 40 doubles, 10 triples, 20 homers & 30 stolen bases
Jarren Duran created history at the plate on Tuesday. He created what can be called the "10-20-30-40 club," as he became the first player in MLB history to record 40 doubles, 30 stolen bases, 20 home runs and 10 triples in a season. But the Red Sox slugger isn't bothered about the statistic and feels a player like Bobby Witt Jr. can achieve that with ease.
During the Red Sox's 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, Duran led off in the first innings driving a 0-1 fastball by starter Yariel Rodriguez deep into right field for a solo home run and the 20th of the season. He went 2-4 in the night, with an infield single in his second at-bat.
His 20 home-run mark, made him just the fourth player in the majors this season — after Shohei Ohtani, Elly De La Cruz and Jose Ramirez — to record 20 HRs and 30 stolen bases. Duran has 42 doubles, 13 triples and 32 stolen bases, making him the only person with the illustrious statistic.
In the post-game interview, when he was made aware of the stat, he didn't show much excitement and reiterated that his role was to help the team. He further suggested that the Kansas City Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. could reach the landmark easily.
"It is pretty crazy but it is just a stat. It doesn't mean anything. It is gonna be broken eventually. You've got guys like B Witt who can do that in his sleep. It is a cool honour, but at the end of the day, it doesn't do anything for the team if I am not helping them win," Duran said.
Bobby Witt Jr. can soon join Jarren Duran in the 10-20-30-40 club
As rightly projected by Jarren Duran, Bobby Witt Jr. is close to achieving the landmark of 10 triples, 20 home runs, 30 stolen bases and 40 doubles. The Royals shortstop is just one double and three stolen bases away from the achievement. He has 27 home runs and 11 triples going along with it.
Witt Jr. and Duran have played similar roles for their teams, leading them to success this season. As per ESPN, Witt (8.7) and Duran (8.1) are second and third on the Wins Above Replacement (WAR) list behind only Aaron Judge (9.7) of the New York Yankees.
