Braves Injury Report: Ozzie Albies placed on IL due to fractured wrist, Max Fried out with forearm neuritis

The Atlanta Braves suffered a couple of blows this week, with injuries to Ozzie Albies and Max Fried. The Braves, who were the best team last year, have struggled off late due to injuries to key players and it seems their injury woes won't stop anytime soon.

Albies injured his left wrist during Sunday's game against the Cardinals. He was trying to apply a tag at second base during the ninth inning of the game. After imaging, the Braves announced that Albies had sustained a fracture and would take at least eight weeks before he returned.

Braves manager Brian Snitker said "it's not good" in his postgame interaction.

According to Mark Bowman, the Braves may bring in Nacho Alvarez to replace Ozzie Albies.

Moreover, the Braves could also use the July 30 MLB trade deadline to trade for an infielder such as Miami Marlins second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. or Brendan Rogers of the Colorado Rockies.

Braves' ace Max Fried hits injured list with left forearm neuritis

In another significant blow, Braves' ace Max Fried was placed on 15-day injured list with left forearm neuritis. It all started in the warm-up to an All-Star game, where the pitcher slightly felt discomfort but didn't report anything as he went on to pitch in the All-Star game on Tuesday.

"Before the All Star Game I was warming up like I normally do and doing some arm circles. Felt something and didn't think much of it. In this game, you feel things all the time. Normally they go away. Didn't feel like I was in any jeopardy of really hurting myself," Fried told reporters on Sunday (via 680 The Fan).
"Took the day off after the game to travel home. Came in, played catch and still was feeling it. At that point, knew I probably should say something if I wasn't going to be able to make my start. Got tests done, everything structurally looks great. Just irritated a sensory nerve, not one of the major muscle functioning nerves. Just going to let it calm down and hopefully be back soon," he added.

Brian Snitker confirmed the same on Sunday, mentioning that following the All-Star game, he got it checked out.

“It’s probably a best-case scenario. He’s gonna have to miss a little time. Nothing showed on the MRI or anything. They’ll just put him down until he’s asymptomatic and he’ll start throwing again,” Snitker said.

According to the news shared concerning the injury, it's a nerve issue instead of any ligament or muscle damage. The Braves will be hoping it isn't anything major and will let time help Fried recover.
