"By far the best rotation in all of baseball" - MLB analyst declares Roki Sasaki would make Dodgers’ starting cavalry unmatched in big league history
MLB analyst Greg Amsinger was not joking as he said that the addition of another potential Japanese arm in Roki Sasaki could elevate the LA Dodgers' starting rotation to the best in MLB history. The Dodgers are already stacked with several All-Star caliber starting arms, with their latest addition being Blake Snell, who signed a five-year, $182 million deal in November.
The Dodgers are among the front runners to sign Sasaki as an international free agent. Many scouts consider the NPB star to be the best in the business, despite him never having pitched in the majors. During Saturday's appearance on MLB Network, Amsinger praised Dodgers rotation and hailed them as the best if they are able to land Sasaki.
"If he lands in Los Angeles and joins Ohtani and Yamamoto, and they already have Glasnow and Blake Snell, that is by far the best rotation in all of baseball."
How does the Dodgers current rotation look like?
The Dodgers' current rotation is led by Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Bobby Miller and Michael Grove.
Snell is a two-time Cy Young winner. Yamamoto was terrific in his first season with the Dodgers, compiling a 3.00 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 18 starts. His NPB stats are unmatched with him winning the Eiji Sawamura Award thrice (2021–2023), which is NPB's version of Cy Young.
Glasnow is a bonafide big-league starter. Meanwhile, Ohtani, who missed out on pitching in 2024 due to rehab, will return to the mound in 2025.
Rumors of possible six-man rotation adoption by Dodgers in 2025 is a possibility, confirmed by their front office leader Andrew Friedman, manager Dave Roberts and GM Brandon Gomes during MLB Winter Meetings earlier this month.
What Amsinger is saying isn't far-fetched. After winning the World Series in 2024, despite pitching wreckage, ownership is concerned about not having it repeated in 2025. That's why they believe adding depth to the position is important.
