"Can not be more of a f*****g liar"; "Hope this loser loses everything" - A's fans enraged at John Fisher saying he tried to keep team in Oakland
Oakland Athletics owner John Fisher posted a farewell letter, addressing the fans, on the A's official MLB.com site on Monday. But the letter has seemingly drawn criticism from fans, who are disappointed at the choice of words from the A's owner.
The A's will be playing their last three games at the Oakland Coliseum this week as they next move to Sacramento before the slated move to Las Vegas that was approved by MLB last year.
However, Fisher's letter mentioned that he tried to keep the team in Oakland to extend their 57-year stint in the city. But the fans didn't buy into A's owner's comments, labelling them as lies.
“The city gave us everything we wanted but fuck you guys lol” I hope this loser loses everything he never earned," wrote a fan.
"Goddamn he can not be more of a f*****g liar than he is in that. Fuck you Fisher for everything and I hope you go bankrupt," another fan said.
"He might as well have wrote “dear fans, fuck you.” And it would have meant the same thing," another fan wrote.
The outrage from the fans continued:
"If John Fisher wanted the team to remain in Oakland, it would've remained in Oakland," alleged a fan.
"What a great letter that lowly intern wrote for him to sign. Fuck John Fisher," another fan wrote.
"Having the audacity to reminisce in the team's history while simultaneously placing the exclusive blame of the move on MLB is such a "fuck you" to these fans. I hope Fisher steps on Legos forever."
What did John Fisher's letter say?
Josh Fisher has been the center of criticism ever since the A's move to Las Vegas was approved by the MLB. While fans have been on Fisher's case for a while, the A's owner said that the goal was to keep the team in Oakland.
"I know there is great disappointment, even bitterness. Though I wish I could speak to each one of you individually, I can tell you this from the heart: we tried," the letter said. "Staying in Oakland was our goal, it was our mission, and we failed to achieve it. And for that I am genuinely sorry."
Apart from the fans, former Oakland pitcher Trevor May also lashed out at the owner for his supposedly "fake" words in the letter, calling out Fisher to face the camera instead of hiding.
