"Can someone tag Aaron Judge?"; "Wanna be underdogs so bad" - Fans amused by Dodgers fans' unique gesture after WS win against Yankees
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series, overcoming a 5-0 deficit to win Game 5 by a final score of 7-6, taking the series 4-1.
The finale was filled with drama, as the Yankees initially took control with home runs from Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. However, a string of defensive errors allowed the Dodgers to take advantage in the fifth inning with five runs to level the score and eventually win the game.
The tables turned when Judge mishandled a simple catch in center field, which provided the opening LA needed. Despite the Yankees briefly regaining the lead in the sixth inning, the Dodgers responded with two runs in the eighth inning to secure their victory.
A post made on MLB on Fox's official Instagram handle Thursday included a sticker on the back of a car that showed the score of the Game 5 where the Yankees looked in complete control of the game as they had scored five runs in comprison to Dodgers' zero. This led to reactions from the fans.
"Can we all get one?," one fan commented.
"So where can I get these stickers?," one fan added.
"Dodger fans wanna be underdogs so bad 😂😂 acting like the 04 Red Sox when they were up 3-1 when this happened," another wrote.
"Can someone tag Aron Judge," another said.
"And one we Yankees fans will never forget," one fan remarked.
Other hardships for the Yankees
2024 has been rough for the Yankees. They not only lost the World Series to the Dodgers, but they also lost some of their players in free agency.
Superstar Juan Soto, who was acquired in a trade, played 157 games for the Yankees in 2024 and became a dominant force in the lineup. Soto and Judge were a potent combination hitting next to each other, forcing opponents to adjust their approach and often sparking big moments for New York.
During free agency, the Yankees tried their best to land Soto on long-term deal, but he signed a historic 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets.
The Yankees lost a few names from their pitching staff. Clay Holmes, who was a free agent, also signed with the Mets. The Yankees traded Nestor Cortes to the Milwaukee Brewers.
New York did make some big moves to bolster the roster, acquiring Max Fried on an eight-year deal for $218 million. The Yankees also traded with the Chicago Cubs to get Cody Bellinger.
