"Can't Complain" - Dodgers' Gavin Lux opens up on scoring early runs against Paul Skenes as LA team beats Pirates ace in close contest

Gavin Lux was on fire for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The infielder managed three runs in the top half of the game with all three coming against Pirates ace and star pitcher Paul Skenes. It was enough to secure a 4-1 win against the road team.

Lux has been on a tear lately. After a slow start to the season, the second baseman has recorded hits in 15 out of the 20 games since the All-Star break. In fact, in the 68 at-bats recorded in the last 30 days, Lux has a .368 batting average with a 1.075 OPS with 25 hits and 15 RBIs.

Three of those came on Saturday when Lux squared up against Skenes. The 26-year-old hit a double to left-center field in the first innings that plated Teoscar Hernandez. He then backed it up with a single to right field in the third that scored Nick Ahmed and Hernandez again.

In the post-game interview, Lux was asked how important the performance against Skenes was. He answered:

"Any time you get on the board early, 2 outs hits, 2 outs RBIs, all that. I think overall though pretty good at-bats all around against a really good pitcher, so can't complain."

Dodgers have Paul Skenes' number after two starts

Paul Skenes has pitched 15 times in the MLB so far and has earned more than three runs only thrice. Two of them have come against the Dodgers. In fact, Saturday's four earned runs were a career-high for the hard-hitting pitcher.

Skenes' ERA dropped to 2.25 as he earned his second loss of the season. In fact, Teoscar Hernandez went yard against the 2022 MLB draft No.1 pick off his splinker, which is considered the deadliest pitch in his arsenal.

Dodgers' Michael Kopech earned the win against Skenes after starter River Ryan, who went through 4.2 innings of scoreless work, had to leave the mound due to an injury. Tyler Glasnow will face Bailey Falter in Sunday's pitching matchup between the two teams.
