Clayton Kershaw Injury Update: Dave Roberts shares concerning news over veteran pitcher's injury, suspects possible IL stint in horizon

LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has shared some concerning news about veteran ace Clayton Kershaw's injury. The 10-time All-Star pitcher was pulled out of Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after his second inning.

In the two innings pitched by Kershaw, he didn't get any strikeouts and conceded a solo home run from Corbin Caroll at the bottom of the second. Immediately after this, Roberts and the team's medical staff entered the pitch and then Kershaw exited the game.

The team announced that Kershaw left the matchup because he was experiencing big toe pain. In the postgame interview, Roberts revealed that the left-handed pitcher is suffering from a bone spur, which he has had for years but pitched anyway. The manager also mentioned that the team is preparing for Kershaw's potential IL stint.

"It's a bone spur. It's obviously not good," Roberts said. "There's swelling. There's pain. He's doing everything he can to kind of get through. In some starts it feels fine and it's not impeding. Today certainly it was. He just - he had nothing. No legs today obviously. Then you start worrying about how it could affect his arm.
"There was just no other alternative but to take him out of that second inning after the Carroll at-bat. We're going to see how he comes in tomorrow. We got somebody coming, just potentially if it is an IL situation."

Clayton Kershaw reflects on his big toe pain and early exit from D-backs game

In a postgame interview, Clayton Kershaw opened up about the pain in his big toe for which he had to exit early from the Dodgers' 10-9 victory against the Diamondbacks.

"Yes, just couldn't really push off," Kershaw said. "It's frustrating when everything else has been feeling right, but no matter what I did, I couldn't really find a comfortable way to push off my toe."

Clayton Kershaw made his season debut on July 15 after recovering from the shoulder surgery he underwent in November 2023. Since making his debut, he has made just six starts for the Dodgers, with a 2-2 record. He has an ERA of 4.50, a WHIP of 1.50 and 24 strikeouts.
