"Dave Dombrowski is going senile" - Fans react as Phillies rope in Max Kepler for 1-year, $10,000,000 deal

The Philadelphia Phillies and outfielder Max Kepler have agreed to a one-year deal, according to Mark Feinsand. The deal is reportedly worth $10 million. The outfielder has played all 10 seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins.

Due to knee and hip injuries, last season he could only play 105 games and slashed .253/.302/.380 and a .682 OPS along with eight home runs with 42 RBIs. The season before (2023), he slashed .260/.332/.484 along with 24 homers and 66 RBIs.

Fans aren't really happy about this new deal, with one user throwing shade at Dave Dombrowski, the Phillies' president of baseball operations.

"Dombrowski's going senile," one user commented.
"Dave has lost it. ZERO PITCHING," another wrote.

A couple of fans expressed their dismay at their offseason to date.

"so this is our move of the offseason??" one fan jokingly asked.
"What are we doing????" another questioned.

However, one fan is seemingly pumped about the move.

Another fan expressed that he will be missed in Minnesota.

"Gonna be a weird year with him not as a Twin. He will remain one of my all time favorite because of his 5 home runs in 5 plate appearances against Trevor Bauer," one fan commented.

The Phillies required an outfielder after letting go of Austin Hays. Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas are there but they aren't a lock as starters. Before signing Kepler, the Phillies signed two-time All-Star closer Jordan Romano earlier this month.

Max Kepler leaves Minnesota fourth in games played in outfield

A decade-long career in Minnesota saw Max Kepler play 1,072 games with the Twins, propelling him to fourth spot behind Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett, Torii Hunter and Tony Oliva in terms of outfield games played in Twins history.

Moreover, he'll leave Target Field as its all-time home run leader. The Berlin, German native said (in September):

“I don’t think I could have done much more as a kid from Berlin. And I’m not trying to prove it to anyone. This is proving to myself what I could have done. I’m truly happy, and yeah, I just wish I could do a little more here now, but it is what it is.”

Now set to play for a different jersey in a different state, Max Kepler will look to win the World Series with the Phillies.
