Disgraced Six-time All-Star throws his name in contention for White Sox job after Pedro Grifol's firing

The Chicago White Sox parted ways with manager Pedro Grifol on Thursday after the team's wretched form this season. A former six-time All-Star threw his name into the mix as the White Sox began a search for their new manager.

The White Sox made the official announcement of Grifol's firing on Thursday, a day after the team snapped their record-breaking 21-game losing streak, the longest losing streak in AL history.

Following Grifol's departure, 'FOX Sports: MLB' asked fans who should be the White Sox manager on X, formerly Twitter. Former six-time All-Star Jose Canseco reshared the post with his name in the caption.

Jose Canseco last played in the MLB in a brief stint with the Chicago White Sox in 2001. However, his status as an MLB great was tainted after the two-time World Series winner admitted to using PEDs during his major league tenure in his 2005 book 'Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big.'

The former AL MVP has been a polarizing figure ever since his retirement. He stirred controversy by alleging that Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez cheated on Jennifer Lopez with his ex-wife Jessica.

Canseco has been active on social media platforms and he recently mocked another Yankees legend, Derek Jeter, calling the five-time World Series winner the most overrated shortstop in history.

Chicago White Sox hire former All-Star as interim manager

The departure of Pedro Grifol seemed imminent as the White Sox are paced for the worst record in MLB history. Grifol, who arrived in Chicago after Tony La Russa's 81-81 season in 2021, didn't cover himself in glory after a losing 61-101 record last year.

While Grifol vowed to improve this season, the team has slumped further in his second season at the helm.

“Despite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day," Chris Getz said. "These two seasons have been very challenging. Unfortunately, the results were not there, and a change is necessary as we look to our future and the development of a new energy around the team.”

Grady Sizemore, a former three-time All-Star, who joined the White Sox coaching staff in 2024, has been appointed as the interim manager for the remainder of the season. Sizemore will have a new team of coaches with him, Doug Sisson (bench), Justin Jirschele (third base) and Mike Gellinger (assistant hitting).
