Dodgers fans distraught as Trayce Thompson strikes out twice in three ABs against poor performance against Cardinals: "Worst player in baseball"
Trayce Thompson has had a tough time lately. He has gone 0-35 at the plate and there is pressure mounting on him to perform with each passing day. Dodgers fans are annoyed with the management's persistence to stick with the outfielder.
The 32-year-old has been in the MLB for the past nine seasons and has played for five different teams during that time. He is currently on his second stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers since the middle of last season. Trayce Thompson was in completely different form in the MLB in 2022, averaging .268 in 74 games, including 13 home runs.
Cut to the current season, Thompson has averaged just .111. Apart from a walk off walk in a recent fixture, the Dodgers outfieler has had nothing else to show for himself. In the recent fixture against the St. Louis Cardinals, he struck out twice in a wild fashion before Dave Peralta was asked to pinch hit in his place.
After the game, fans took to Twitter to voice their claims against the left fielder. Even though the Dodgers are going strong, fans are more concerned with Thompson holding up someone else's place in the lineup.
Trayce Thompson's poor stats against left handed pitching hampering technique
There are major questions on Trayce Thompson's batting abilities against left-handed pitching with him averaging just .065 in 31 at-bats. However, the management has stated that it is his role in the team to stick out the bat against them. Manager Dave Roberts said:
"The truth is, he's great on the team, but he has a certain role on our ball club. And we're giving him as much leash and opportunity as we can to fill that role and he's doing everything he can to this ball club."
The Dodgers are probably not that bothered considering their good record so far this season. But they will soon have to take a call on Thompson's position in the team if things remain the same.
