Dodgers Injury Report: Tyler Glasnow set to return, Mookie Betts progress, latest update on Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Max Muncy and more
Today's injury reports from the Los Angeles Dodgers cover some key players on their roster. A few updates will send a glimmer of hope to fans as the NL West leaders (56-41) begin the second half of the 2024 MLB season.
A bunch of players might re-join the team by the end of this month, or at least in August. However, some players still don't have an estimation of their arrival on the team yet. Here's a closer look at the Los Angeles Dodgers' latest injury updates.
Los Angeles Dodgers Injury Updates from Friday, July 19
#1. Tyler Glasnow
On Friday, right-hander Tyler Glasnow was successful in assuring the team of his return after suffering lower back tightness. He finished a three-inning simulated game at Dodgers Stadium, which is a big step in his recovery.
Now, he'll be under supervision for the next few days, and if everything goes well, Glasnow should get back on the field on July 24 against the San Francisco Giants.
#2. Mookie Betts
Mookie Betts is still recovering from the fractured left hand, and he's stated that he has only 40-50% strength in his hand. So, there's still a long way to go, but Betts was able to take the ground balls during the week of July 15.
"They said everything is on track," Betts said. "It’s just something you don’t want to rush and then you start making bad habits in your swinging, then it’s good that you came back, but you’re doing more harm than good. I just want to make sure I’m ready to go."
He's expected to return sometime in August.
#3. Clayton Kershaw
Clayton Kershaw is currently going through left shoulder surgery, however, he's expected to return quite sooner than expected. In his recent rehab start on Friday, Kershaw performed splendidly as he struck out a player and only allowed three runs in four innings. So, he's expected to make a return in late July.
He had also been able to work out two innings in the stimulated game on July 7. Then on July 13, he managed to deliver three hitless innings with five strikeouts for the Triple-A Oklahoma City. Not only that, he also threw 12 pitches in the bullpen on that day.
#4. Walker Buehler
Walker Buehler hasn't given much update about his right hip inflammation. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts tried to keep the fans in the loop, as he said Buehler is currently working with non-affiliated professionals, which is usually not allowed in the majors. Roberts also talked about how they are keeping an eye on him:
"Walker is throwing a live session in his hometown in Kentucky today or tomorrow," Roberts said on Friday. "He's going to be back here in town Tuesday. We’ll put eyes on him on Tuesday."
Still, there's no determined date of his return as of now, it's to be seen if he can make a return this season.
#5. Max Muncy
Max Muncy has been a bit slow in terms of progress with his right oblique strain. Muncy will most probably remain on the injured list for yet another month, as Roberts shared some medical reports on July 6 that didn't mention any developments as such.
At first, he was practicing some swings off a tee, however, he'll reportedly undergo a complete rehab before he joins baseball practice again. He is expected to return sometime in August.
#6. Jason Heyward
On Friday, when Glasnow threw three innings in a simulated game, Jason Heyward was at-bat during those pitches. It seems he has almost recovered his left knee bone bruise, but has still not been scratched from the injured list yet.
Roberts added that he'll join the team "over the next couple of days." Dodgers fans can expect to see him on the field again sooner rather than later.
