Dodgers manager Dave Roberts rallies fans for World Series parade 2024 after missing out in 2020 due to Los Angeles COVID-19 restrictions
Dave Roberts has been with the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2016. Before this season, he had seen three World Series, won one, but never got a chance to appear in the parade. That changed on Wednesday after the Dodgers rallied to beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5, recovering from a 5-0 deficit, to clinch the series 4-1.
The last time the Dodgers won a full season in the MLB was in 1988 when they beat the Oakland Athletics to win their sixth title. They were victorious in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season as well, beating the Tampa Bay Rays. However, pandemic restrictions in California meant that they were unable to host a special event with their fans.
After three seasons, the city of Los Angeles will finally get their parade after the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic in five games. On Wednesday, the team scripted a come-from-behind win and celebrated just 12 miles away from the franchise's birthplace, Brooklyn.
The LA skipper spoke about the grit and determination his team showed when they were 5-0 down at the half way mark. Speaking of the pride he felt for his team, he said that the players are bringing the parade to their hometown.
"I am just so proud of these guys. They wanted it for the fans. I talked about getting a parade, we're gonna get our parade this year," Roberts said.
Los Angeles Dodgers detail World Series parade plans
Soon after the Dodgers completed their Game 5 win, the Los Angeles Dodgers released details about the city's parade.
As per their post on X (formerly Twitter), the celebrations will be held on Friday morning in the west coast. It will start at the City Hall before the team and the staff make their way through downtown Los Angeles to Dodger Stadium.
There will be a special ticketed event at the home of the Dodgers where the entire roster, staff and front office members will be commemorated. As per the advisory, the management has requested fans to be either part of the parade or the ticketed event at the stadium to avoid unnecessary commotion.
