Dodgers Trade Rumors: Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert Jr. and Michael Kopech identified as top targets before deadline, per report
The LA Dodgers spent billions in the offseason, but it seems they are still not the best team in the majors. Even though they lead the NL West, at times they look clueless on many fronts. With the trade deadline approaching, they have one last chance to bolster their roster and address weaknesses before it's too late.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox are on the cusp of a blockbuster trade involving Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert Jr., and Michael Kopech before the July 30 trade deadline.
"Dodgers acquire CF Luis Robert Jr., LHP Garrett Crochet and RHP Michael Kopech from White Sox for RHP Nick Frasso, LHP Justin Wrobleski, RHP Kyle Hurt, RHP Payton Martin, C Dalton Rushing, OF Andy Pages and SS Emil Morales," Bowden wrote via The Athletic.
The White Sox gets good prospects for the future, which they can build upon and get into contention in the near future.
Upside for Dodgers if the blockbuster trade goes through
Seemingly, this trade will answer all of the Dodgers' problems and upgrade their roster to another level.
Garett Crochet has been having a phenomenal year, and with the Dodgers starting rotation and overcoming injuries, he would be the perfect man for the job going into the second half. Moreover, the pitcher will be under the team's control through the 2026 season, giving a huge upside in terms of the future.
Luis Robert is a Gold Glove-caliber outfielder who has a friendly contract with club options in 2026 and 2027, giving the LA club a huge upside. This season, he hasn't looked as great as in 2023, but he can still turn it around in the second half of the season with the right team.
Michael Kopech won't upgrade the Dodgers roster like the other, two but he could be a good middle reliever in a pitcher-friendly ball park like the one in Chavez Ravine.
However, it won't be that easy for the Dodgers to pull off this trade. They face fierce competition from the New York Yankees. Moreover, the Dodgers are battling in two fronts, with the team also reported to be heavily interested in Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers.
