Elly De La Cruz drops 2-word reaction to Stephen Curry's performance in Warriors victory over Mavericks
With the MLB season over, Cincinnati Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz has switched TV channels and is enjoying his offseason by watching exciting NBA games. The NBA's Tuesday's slate featured the Dallas Mavericks against the Golden State Warriors.
The game was a thriller through all four quarters, with Golden State edging out in the final seconds, courtesy of Steph Curry's clutch 3-pointer with 26 seconds left. This was when his iconic "Night Night" winning celebration came into the bright light, and De La Cruz cherished it too. The Warriors won 120–117.
The Reds shortstop posted the celebration on Instagram with a two-word message.
"No Clutch," he wrote.
Curry's fourth-quarter clutch added to his impressive game, which saw him score 37 points, six rebounds and nine assists in 35 minutes of action. His Splash Brother Klay Thompson, who is now with the Mavericks, also shone with 22 points, making good on 6 of 12 3-point attempts.
Elly De La Cruz's teammates testify to the Reds shortstop's love for Steph Curry
In a world captivated by Michael Jordan and LeBron James, Elly De La Cruz loves prolific 3-point shooter Steph Curry who has four NBA championships, all with the Golden State Warriors.
Testifying De La Cruz's love for Curry was his former Triple-A teammate Will Benson, who said in March (via The Enquirer):
“Elly does love Steph, and he thinks he knows basketball. He likes to say that LeBron is not up to Steph’s level. He uses more choice words than that. I do acknowledge that Steph Curry is a new wave of basketball and changed the game. But what LeBron has done is unreal.”
“There are a lot of great guys. But I love Steph. He’s just different.”
Another Reds player who testifies on the same line is second baseman Matt McLain, who said:
“Elly thinks that he’s Steph Curry, but he’s not good at shooting. I thought, ‘He’s Elly, he might be really good at it.’ And, yeah.”
De La Cruz loves to watch the Warriors game, especially Curry. He'll be delighted to know that Steve Kerr's unit has started the season with 9-2 on the year.
