“Every day he does the same thing” - CC Sabathia shares a joke about Derek Jeter’s superstitious habits before ballgames

Derek Jeter was one of the most successful and popular players of his generation. The Hall of Fame shortstop made a name for himself across the MLB for his talent on the field and the professionalism that he showcased throughout his career. The former New York Yankees captain used his work ethic and skills to carve out one of the best baseball careers of the last 30 years, winning five World Series.

His former teammate, CC Sabathia, on Tuesday said that Jeter is rather superstitious, so that may have helped him along the way as well.

"Jeet is super, superstitious," Sabathia said on "The 6-1-1 Podcast." "Every day he does the same thing."

He then dove into a hilarious story of him and Jeter eating soul food in Kansas City during a series against the Royals.

"We eat this food, and then we are both sleeping on the couch," he said. "The Jeets wakes up and goes 5-for-5, but, like, his stomach is hurting."

He said that Derek Jeter asked to go again the next day to see if it would help keep the momentum.

"If he does well, he's going to do the same exact thing," Sabathia said.

Derek Jeter talked about an embarrassing superstition he did during his career to Jimmy Fallon

While an athlete repeating what they did the day before a major success might not sound uncommon, the New York Yankees legend shared a story on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" about the extremes he went to during his playing days.

The Hall of Famer said that he wore a golden thong to try to break out of a slump he was experiencing at the plate. The thong reportedly belonged to former Yankees slugger Jason Giambi and helped Giambi get out of a slump, so Jeter said that it was true that he had done the same during his own cold streak.
