Ex-Phillies GM predicts Trea Turner and Bryson Stott’s fielding positions if Alex Bregman joins at 2B
The Philadelphia Phillies have been relatively quiet when it comes to spending this offseason. They have a one-year agreement with reliever Jordan Romano and Max Kepler but haven't done much else.
Third baseman Alex Bregman is on the free agent market, and on Thursday's 'The Phillies Show,' former GM Ruben Amaro Jr. discussed the possibility of Bregman signing with the club. He also addressed subsequent defensive moves in the lineup.
"I mean, in a perfect world, I’d sign the guy and put him at second, move Turner to center field, and move Stott to short," Amaro Jr. said (from 28:05 onwards). "Let’s go! I mean, listen, that’s very unrealistic, but if I could wave a wand and do that, I think it would make this team a brilliant team."
Bregman would bring with him bags of postseason experience. During his tenure with the Houston Astros, he won two World Series championships.

Ruben Amaro is buying what Alex Bregman wants, a deal north of $200 million. Earlier in the offseason, the Astros offered him a contract of around $150 million but that was before Juan Soto came into the picture.
Amaro continued, praising Bregman for what he brings to the table:
"The only guy for me would be Bregman. I mean, if you’re really going for it, that would be the guy because he fits so well with what they’re trying to do. That type of hitter, from that side of the plate, a championship-caliber player—he’s got rings, you know, the whole nine yards. This is a baseball rat, the kind of player you want on your team. He fits all those things.
"He doesn’t necessarily fit the budget, though, because he’s such a good player. The guy’s going to command over $200 million—it’s as simple as that. I don’t think they’re ready to do that."
At the moment, Scott Boras and his client Bregman are staying put, hoping to land a good deal.
