"Eye black, tongue hanging out" - Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar in disbelief over 'unique' clay bobblehead made in his likeness

St. Louis Cardinals right fielder Lars Nootbaar reacted in awe as he was shown a clay bobblehead of himself. The clay molds for this bobblehead were handmade by artists in three parts: the base, the body and the head, and then put together in the end.

In Sunday's episode of Cardinals Insider, Nootbaar talked about the amazing detailing in the clay model of his face. (5:21)

"They got the eye black on there, the tongue hanging out, that's really cool. I can't believe they take soft mush and turn it into this. Pretty unbelievable. I like the eye black, the tongue hanging out, the STL (logo) on the hat, that's pretty dang cool. I think they did a pretty great job on it."

On the pitch, Nootbaar is having a decent season in the Cardinals' middle order. For the 2024 season, the number six hitter is batting .244, with nine home runs and 36 RBIs registered.

As for the St. Louis Cardinals, it looks like they will miss the playoffs for a second straight year. Currently third in the NL Central standings, any potential qualification from this point forward will need a miraculous run till the end of the season.

Offensive production has been a major issue for the Redbirds this season, with a lot of their best hitters having underwhelming campaigns.

Lars Nootbaar hits home run in Toronto as Cardinals come up short

The St. Louis Cardinals lost the final game of their series in Toronto 3-2, as the Blue Jays successfully swept the Redbirds at Rogers Center.

After the visitors initially took the lead in the top of the fifth, the hosts flipped the game on its head with a two-run homer in the same inning.

Left fielder Lars Nootbaar hit a game-tying home run in the seventh, but the Blue Jays added another in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the victory.

On a day when the Cardinals' top order went hitless, all the damage was done by the left fielder-right fielder combo.

Right fielder Jordan Walker also contributed with an RBI to open the scoring for his team. However, the Cardinals' offensive frailties paid dividends as Toronto's leadoff hitter Nathan Lukes put the game beyond Lars Nootbaar and Co. late on.

Next, the Cardinals head back home to face the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium on Monday. Andre Pallante takes to the mound, as the Redbirds look to come back from three back-to-back losses on the road.
